Spiritual Discernment

Text: Mark 11:27-12:27

A solid root for all of our thinking and discernment regarding religious and spiritual worship can be found in Mark 11:30. Whatever we are reasoning about we should ask: is this thing born from Heaven or from man, is it of the Spirit or of the flesh? God desires us to be fruitful with a fruitfulness that is from Him, through him, and to him. This week we will consider the necessity of focusing on what is from God.

Without an absolute hatred of sin as sin, what business do you have cleaning up some particular part of your life? You who hold on to your sin in tenderness, calling it sweet names, are like Saul who saved the choicest possessions of the Amalekites for himself. The sin that you are holding on to, Christ bled and died for the sake of it, so set yourself against it as the Father set himself against his Son as a result of it.
